Study Tour 2009
We are running a highly innovative study tour to a Farm and School from Stoneleigh Park on Thursday the 8th October.
The tour showcases a perfect example of how renewable electricity generation can be integrated into a municipal building profitably, when previously considered neither viable or economic under existing industry CHP guidelines. It is installed proof that renewable CHP, when engineered correctly, can deliver a serious contribution to Local Authorities obligations under the Carbon Reduction Commitment (CRC).
This tour represents the opportunity to see directly how Phoenix fuels and LowC have joined forces to make Low carbon communities happen in the real world and more specifically in the environment of a school's energy demand profile that until now was considered inappropriate for Combined Heat and Power (CHP) technology.

The tour will take approx 4.5 hours in total. Attendees will be back in time for the Networking Drinks and Dinner on Thursday evening. The cost of the tour is £45 (+VAT) per person and is an option during the registration process.
The tour is a 2 stage event.
Stage 1. The first part of the tour is a visit to a farmwhich runs a co-op rapeseed crushing facility. The left-over Biomass from the rapeseed is then turned into high energy pellets and briquettes.
The virgin oil produced is supplied to a local school (see stage 2), where it is used as the fuel for an innovative renewable combined heat and power (CHP) system. The farm also produces Biodiesel from the virgin rapeseed.
Stage 2. The tour then travels a short distance to the Bigwood school where the virgin oil from the farm is supplied to.
The collaboration between a locally produced renewable fuel and innovative CHP facility delivers:
1. The UK's leading example of a low carbon school built under the Government's Building Schools for the Future (BSF) Programme.
2. The most cost effective solution available to meet and exceed the carbon reduction targets of the BSF Programme.
3. The first CHPQA accredited 150Kw(e) Pure Plant Oil CHP integrated into a new BSF school.
4. The most cost effective renewable technology available for the generation of renewable (green) electricity attracting double ROCs.
5. The most cost effective and reliable way of achieving less than 27Kg of Co2 per m2 per year, through delivery of renewable heat and electricity.
6. The lowest operational carbon footprint for any school yet delivered under the BSF programme.
7. A long term revenue stream by successfully unlocking double ROC's and LEC's for electricity generation. (Heat ROCs to come).
8. A solution that is CHPQA certified for ECA (Enhanced Capital Allowances) to allow write down of the installation cost within 12 months.
